To help the retreat attendees internalize the Tarbiyah theme verse (Qur’an 3:139) by:

  • Reflecting on moments of perceived failure or grief
  • Recognizing Allah’s standard of success
  • Building resilience and sisterhood through faith-centered scenarios

This verse was revealed after the Battle of Uhud, a time when the Muslims faced a temporary setback and were emotionally and physically shaken.
Allah reminded them that true success lies not in temporary outcomes, but in their unwavering belief, trust, and obedience to Him.
The verse teaches that even in moments of perceived failure, the believer maintains the "upper hand" through faith (iman), patience (sabr), and sincerity (ikhlas).


Key lessons from the tafseer include:
- Don’t let setbacks lead to despair.
- True believers always have dignity in Allah’s sight.
- Spiritual victory is greater than worldly success.
- Remain firm in faith and connected to the purpose of serving Allah.

    A sister worked hard and is overlooked for a leadership role. She begins to doubt herself. Her friend reminds her of the verse and helps reframe her goal and ensure she understands leadership roles should not be sought.
  2. “Unseen Effort”
    A sister does all the behind-the-scenes work for an ICNA event but gets no public recognition. Someone praises only the stage speaker. How does she stay sincere? What are some tazkiyyah opportunities in this scenario?
  3. “Criticism After Mistake”
    A sister made a small error in a public talk. A few attendees later mocked her. She’s embarrassed but reminded that her sincerity is what matters to Allah. How should the sisters have provided constructive feedback?
  4. “Event Flopped”
    Despite weeks of planning, their halaqah had very low turnout. The team is discouraged but reflects on intention and impact beyond numbers. What are some positive outcomes that can come from this?
  5. “Ignored for Her Simplicity”
    A sister is not as articulate or social, so others overlook her. Her quiet consistency reminds the team what true strength looks like in Allah’s eyes. Can you think of any sister in your own group who resembles the person in this scenario?

Activity Title: “The Confidence Circle – Dawah in Real Life”[a]

Objective:

Equip participants with real-world dawah communication skills through interactive, scenario-based skits that build confidence, encourage wisdom (hikmah), and emphasize sincerity in relationship-building.

Structure:

Split participants into small groups (3–5 people). Each group receives a unique scenario and has 10–15 minutes to plan a short 3–4 minute skit showing:

  • How to initiate a conversation
  • How to engage wisely (with hikmah)
  • How to build connection and sincerity
  • Optional: how to tie in social media or community involvement

Then each group presents their skit. Follow with a brief debrief/discussion.
